The Gotrax GXL folding electric scooter is is an affordable option for commuters on a budget who need a lightweight commuting option that can be folded up and stowed away when the ride is over.

Gotrax has a range of personal electric vehicles to choose from; this one, the Gotrax GXL, is a single drive electric scooter with a light curb weight, rear disc brake and pneumatic tires to help provide some shock absorption for a smoother ride.

Power — 250 nominal watts, 350 peak watts

The Gotrax GXL folding electric scooter has a front hub motor with a nominal output of 250 watts and 350 peak watts. This motor is efficient and helps conserve battery compared to more powerful motors, and does a good job at getting the rider up to top speed on flat ground.

Battery and Range — 36 volt 15 ah, 12 miles

The Gotrax GXL folding electric scooter runs on a 36 volt system and has a 5 ah battery for an estimated max range of 12 miles. The battery in the GXL is internally housed, which keeps it safe from dirt and debris but also means it can’t be charged separately from the scooter.

Brakes — Electronic, foot brake

The electronic brake is surprisingly strong and can bring the scooter to a complete stop, and the foot brake is a good emergency brake in the case the electronic brake fails, or to be used for extra speedy stops.

Warranty — 3 month comprehensive

The Gotrax GXL folding electric scooter has a 3 month comprehensive warranty that covers battery, electronics and any defects in manufacturing.

Price — Starting at $299

Starting at $299, the Gotrax GXL folding electric scooter is pretty affordable but still offers some good features like the ability to fold, pneumatic tires and two forms of braking.

Who’s it for — Commuters with a limited budget, and space

This feels like a good choice for those who don’t need to travel long distances and don’t want to invest a large amount of money in a new personal electric vehicle. The Gotrax GXL folding electric scooter is priced competitively and is quite a bit better than many of its competitors at a similar price point. This scooter makes the most sense for those with limited space who need something small, and especially those who foresee needing to carry their vehicle with them, like up stairs or into the office. For a budget electric scooter, the Gotrax GXL ticks all the boxes.
