Written Review

The PIM Bicycles Mylo folding electric scooter is a three wheel scooter with a tilt steering system that makes it incredibly stable and can fold up in just a few seconds.

PIM Bicycles started as an electric bike company, but now they’ve delved into the electric scooter world with their Mylo electric scooter. This three wheel electric scooter is pretty unique and has a tilt steering system that makes it stable and gives it a feel more akin to an electric bike. It also has integrated lights, a horn and hydraulic disc brakes.

Power — 250 nominal watts

The PIM Bicycles Mylo folding electric scooter has an efficient 250 nominal watt geared hub motor in the rear wheel. While this motor isn’t overly powerful, it does conserve energy and is powerful enough to maintain top speed on flat ground and climb slight hills.

Speed  — 18 mph

The PIM Bicycles Mylo folding electric scooter has a top speed of 18 mph, which can be reached using the throttle. The top speed feels comfortable on this electric scooter and it’s quite stable even when traveling at 18 mph.

Battery and Range — 36 volt 20 ah, 30 miles

The PIM Bicycles Mylo folding electric scooter runs on a 36 volt system and has a standard 10 ah battery with the option to purchase a second 10 ah battery to go in the other battery slot, giving this electric scooter an estimated max range of 30 miles with both batteries. The batteries are housed inside a plastic case which keeps them protected from dirt and debris, and they can be removed with minimal effort for charging and storage.

Display — LCD

The PIM Bicycles Mylo folding electric scooter has an LCD display on the right side of the handlebars with a horn button on the left side of the handlebars. The display provides all the pertinent electronic information like speed, battery level and distance.

Frame and weight — 6061 Aluminum alloy, 45 pounds

The PIM Bicycles Mylo folding electric scooter has an aluminum alloy frame and a curb weight of nearly 45 pounds. This is a bit heavier than some electric scooters but carrying the Mylo around when it’s folded up isn’t too bad.

Suspension — Spring suspension

The PIM Bicycles Mylo folding electric scooter has spring suspension in the front with approximately 30 mm of travel. This suspension does a good job of mitigating smaller bumps and even some light off-road trails but shouldn’t be used for jumps or extreme obstacles.

Brakes — Hydraulic disc

The PIM Bicycles Mylo folding electric scooter uses hydraulic disc brakes with a 145 mm rotor in the front and a 160 mm rotor in the rear, providing ample stopping power. The brake levers also have motor inhibitors built in, which instantly cut power to the motor whenever the brake levers are depressed.

Warranty — 1 year comprehensive

The PIM Bicycles Mylo folding electric scooter has a 1 year comprehensive warranty.

Price — Starting at $1,495

Starting at $1,495, the PIM Bicycles Mylo folding electric scooter is in the mid tier price range for electric scooters, but justifies its price with a unique steering mechanism that provides great stability. The hydraulic disc brakes, integrated lighting and front suspension are also good upgrade features not always found on electric scooters.

Who’s it for — Those with stability and storage in mind

This feels like a good choice for those who want an electric scooter to cruise around on but are worries about the safety issues sometime associated with traditional standup electric scooters. The Mylo offers excellent stability, even at top speed, and the hydraulic disc brakes means you don’t have to rely on motor power to slow down. This is also a good choice for those who are limited on space. The Mylo folds in just a few seconds and can be easily stowed in the back seat or trunk of a car. This would work particularly well for those with an RV who travel from town to town and need a small but efficient personal electric vehicle to get around the campsite and city.
